"The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing, and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is the friend who cares."

Henri Nouwen

Our Volunteers
White Rock Hospice Society volunteers provide an invaluable service to the White Rock/South Surrey community. Through their warm and compassionate care, there are hundreds of families each year whose quality of life is made valuable and tolerable at a time when facing daily life can be difficult.

The White Rock Hospice Society has two branches of volunteers: Our "Friends of Hospice" or auxiliary volunteers provide assistance in our office, as board members, with maintenance of our house, providing baked goods for our PCU tea service, and assisting in many ways with the various fundraising events held throughout the year. Our "Client Volunteers" provide direct care to hospice clients who are facing a life-threatening illness, or who are bereaved.

Several educational and social events are planned for volunteers throughout the year, and regular support meetings are held for client volunteers who are involved with hospice clients.
